Jenkins High School

Savannah, GA

Overview

Capital Sports Construction, Inc. partnered with Jenkins High School in Savannah, GA to upgrade the campus athletic complex. The project included installation of a new synthetic turf surface on the main field, a full resurfacing of the running track, and construction of a dedicated throws area (for discus/shotput). These enhancements provide a modern, durable and multi-use athletic environment capable of hosting football, track & field, and field-event practices and competitions.

This comprehensive upgrade reflects a commitment to athletic performance, safety, and long-term facility value, providing students and faculty with reliable, all-weather surfaces designed for heavy use and diverse athletic programming.

Project Goals

  • Replace existing natural or worn field surfaces with a durable synthetic turf system
  • Install a modern track surface suitable for sprint, distance and field-event training
  • Construct a stable, regulation-ready throws area for discus and shot put practice
  • Improve drainage, field stability, and overall surface consistency to minimize weather-related downtime
  • Provide low-maintenance, high-performance surfaces capable of supporting heavy use and varied sports

Our Scope of Work

Site Design & Engineering

The project began with evaluation of existing athletic facility conditions — including field grade, soil stability, drainage patterns, and layout of track/field-event zones. Engineering plans were developed to ensure proper base design for synthetic turf, track surfacing, and the throws area foundation, including grading and drainage systems to support all-weather performance.

Site Construction

Construction included removal of prior surface materials and grading to create a stable sub-base across the field, track, and throws pit zones. Work consisted of:

  • Excavation and removal of existing turf or grass surfaces
  • Precision grading to establish correct elevations and slopes for drainage and event-safety compliance
  • Installation of aggregate base layers optimized for stability and moisture control
  • Construction of subsurface drainage infrastructure to ensure quick runoff during heavy rain
  • Foundation preparation specifically tailored for the throw-pit area to support throwing events

These tasks ensured a uniform, stable foundation suitable for high-performance synthetic and track surfaces.

Synthetic Turf Installation & Track Surfacing

The main field received a robust synthetic turf system engineered for football, general athletics, and heavy usage. Installation included turf laying, infill setup, and secure seam-edge finishing to ensure durability. Surrounding the turf field, a new multi-layer track surface was applied to support sprinting, distance running, and field-event approach/exit zones. The throws pit was finalized with proper surfacing and layout to support discus and shot put practice safely and reliably.

Project Highlights

  • Delivered a complete athletic complex overhaul: turf field, all-weather track, and regulated throws area
  • Significantly improved drainage and weather resistance across all surfaces
  • Provided low-maintenance, durable athletic infrastructure suitable for frequent use
  • Created safe, regulation-quality playing and training surfaces for multiple sports and events
  • Enabled year-round training, games, and field-event practice without reliance on natural grass or weather constraints
  • Supported enhanced athletic programming and flexibility for Jenkins High School

Results

With the completion of these upgrades, Jenkins High School now enjoys a modern, multi-functional athletic complex that supports football, track & field, and field-event training and competition. The synthetic turf field delivers consistent performance and safety; the new track surface offers reliable, all-weather performance for sprinters and distance runners; and the dedicated throws area supports discipline-specific event practice under safe, regulation-quality conditions.

These enhancements reduce maintenance demands, extend facility longevity, and provide the school with the infrastructure needed to support expanded athletics programming. Coaches, students, and the community benefit from improved scheduling flexibility and a facility capable of withstanding frequent, high-intensity use.
