John Hunt Park

Huntsville, AL

Overview

Capital Sports Construction, Inc. completed foundational base work at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, AL to support construction of two new synthetic turf multi-purpose fields. These fields are designed to accommodate community recreation, athletics, and multi-use programming — providing durable, all-weather surfaces capable of handling heavy usage.

Our work ensures that John Hunt Park now has a reliable base infrastructure built to modern sports construction standards, setting the stage for long-term performance and versatility.

Project Goals

  • Perform base work to establish engineered subsurface support for two new multi-use fields
  • Provide stable, drainage-ready foundations suitable for synthetic turf installations
  • Enable year-round use of recreational and athletic fields irrespective of weather
  • Deliver low-maintenance, durable field surfaces that minimize long-term upkeep
  • Support community recreational needs, athletics programs, and flexible use

Our Scope of Work

Site Design & Engineering

The project began with a comprehensive site evaluation at John Hunt Park, analyzing existing terrain, soil conditions, drainage patterns, and field usage needs. Engineering plans defined precise grading, subsurface drainage pathways, and structural base specifications to support two synthetic turf fields, accommodating recreational and athletic activities under heavy rotation.

Site Construction (Base work)

Base work included removal of existing surface materials, grading, and creation of engineered sub-bases for both fields. Key tasks included:

  • Excavating the existing ground surfaces as needed
  • Precision grading to set proper field elevations and drainage slopes
  • Installation of compacted aggregate base layers engineered for water runoff and ground stability
  • Construction of underfield drainage infrastructure to support all-weather performance
  • Final sub-base preparation meeting specifications required for synthetic turf system installation

This comprehensive foundation work ensures long-term structural stability and reliable performance once turf is installed.

Preparation for Synthetic Turf Installation

Though the turf surfacing itself is scheduled as a separate phase, our base work lays the critical groundwork for future synthetic turf installation. The prepared fields will support heavy use, withstand varied weather conditions, and provide consistent foundation quality for high-performance turf systems.

Project Highlights

  • Completed engineered base work for two multi-purpose fields at John Hunt Park
  • Established drainage-ready, stable sub-bases optimized for synthetic turf installation
  • Created durability and structural integrity to support heavy community and athletics use
  • Delivered low-maintenance infrastructure designed for long-term performance
  • Enabled future installation of all-weather turf surfaces for recreation, sports, and public events
  • Supported Huntsville community’s need for reliable, multi-use athletic/recreation fields

Results

With the base work phase complete, John Hunt Park is prepared for installation of two high-quality synthetic turf fields. The foundational improvements — including drainage infrastructure and engineered sub-base — ensure that future turf installations will deliver consistent performance, durability, and longevity under heavy usage.

Once turf is installed, the fields will provide community members and local athletics programs with weather-resistant, low-maintenance playing surfaces suitable for multiple sports and recreational activities, enhancing the park’s value and usability.
