Capital Sports Construction, Inc. contributed to the development of the professional soccer venue in downtown Colorado Springs, CO, known as Weidner Field, home of Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. As part of the stadium build, our team supported the construction of the synthetic turf playing field with engineered base work, grading, and field preparation designed to meet professional soccer performance standards, including support for a FIFA-quality turf system.

Our Scope of Work

Site Design and Coordination

Working as part of a broader stadium construction team, Capital Sports Construction focused on subsurface elements that directly affect field performance. This included reviewing requirements for the synthetic turf assembly and its underlying shock-pad and infill system—designed to achieve FIFA-style play characteristics—and ensuring the base structure supported proper drainage, stability, and uniformity.

Field Base Work and Grading

Our work centered on preparing the playing area to receive a professional-quality synthetic turf system. Key activities included:

  • Rough and fine grading to achieve precise field elevations and slope for surface drainage
  • Installation of engineered aggregate base layers designed to maintain stability under heavy loading
  • Sub-base compaction and quality control checks to ensure uniform support across the entire field footprint
  • Integration of drainage pathways so that the synthetic surface could perform effectively in varying weather conditions

This base work provided the structural platform required for the advanced turf, infill, and shock-pad assembly used at Weidner Field.
